John Harrison Clocks

Our John Harrison clocks are a homage to the great man himself, our H1 took nearly five years to produce and is a sight to behold, finished to the highest standards using fascinating mechanics.

John Harrison was a gentleman born in Yorkshire who spent nearly his whole life producing what is known as the H4 clock which was designed for use at sea to help sailors with the problems of reading longtitude, it took John over fifty years to create the clock but he did it and with the H1 that we have created we pay respect to this great man.

We made the clock about three quarters the size of the original Joh Harrision but still shows off all the inventions that John used to make the clock function in the correct way, you can see the escapement and the mechanism that is known as the grid iron, this is wonderfyl mechanics at work and is a wonder every time you look at it.

We have designed the John Harrison clock to be different from the original but only in its practicality, the clock only needs winding once a week the pendulums in the clocks are very distinctive and made from Invar, the grid iron system is very complex and the springs change their length to accommodate different temperatures. These clocks are a true masterpiece and a testomony to the skills that John Harrison possessed and we are proud to offer them for purchase to our clients.
